Meet our 121 Animal Hospital Team

Ali Afkhami-Rohani, DVM

Ali Afkhami-Rohani, DVM

Practice owner and Medical Director

Dr. Ali is the practice owner of Alma Animal Hospital in Allen and 121 Animal Hospital in Frisco. Before moving to Dallas in 2002, he practiced for several years in the beautiful Windsor, Canada. He then started practicing at a very busy animal clinic in Garland for a couple of years, along with performing Veterinary relief work throughout the Dallas metroplex. In 2004, with the help of his brothers, Dr. Ali built and opened Alma Animal Hospital. Alma Animal Hospital is where Dr. Ali got to know many of his current clients and staff that would soon become both friends and family. Many years later, Dr. Ali and his brothers decided to grow and build another location. In 2011, 121 Animal Hospital was built so that he and his staff could offer their services in a broadened area. He is proud that both facilities employee friendly and caring staff that tirelessly practice high end care.

Dr. Ali is an accomplished veterinarian who can effectively treat and manage challenging cases. He is a skilled surgeon that is competent in both complicated and routine surgical procedures. Possessing the ability to perform orthopedic as well as soft tissue surgeries, he is a progressive practitioner, striving to provide top-notch veterinary care and client service. With his academic background, Dr. Ali loves to continue education and spends around 80 to 100 hours per year for CE, transferring newly developed methods and technologies to clients and their pets. He holds several certifications such as Regenerative Stem-Cell therapy, abdominal ultrasound, and echocardiographic examination. His medical interests are internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, and dentistry; but his passion is to perform ultrasounds and echo exams which can very challenging in the veterinary field.

Through all of this, he still keeps his outgoing and friendly personality and enjoys interacting and socializing with clients while highly caring for their pets. Personal hobbies include learning and playing music, outdoor activities, swimming, and traveling with his family.

After spending much of her childhood in McKinney, Dr. Brittany Hickok is returning to the DFW area.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science at Chapman University in Southern California.  After working as an overnight veterinary technician at an animal emergency hospital, she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M.  Her medical interests include internal medicine, cardiology, and diagnostic imaging.  Dr. Hickok is very happy to be joining the team at Alma Animal Hospital, where exceptional quality care is the standard for all of their patients.

Dr. Hickok lives with her fiancé David, also a veterinarian who practices in the Dallas area.  They share their new home with Bubbles and Clover (both Jack Russell mixes), Klaus (a Yorkie mix), Samson (a Pitbull Terrier) and their two cats (Trig and Medley).  While not working, her interests include yoga, hiking, watching her tv shows, and of course spending time with her family and animals at home.

I completed my B.V.Sc (equivalent to DVM) from Acharya N.G Ranga agricultural university, India in 2004. I did my internship in veterinary polyclinic, Kakinada, India, which is mostly in small animal practice. I pursued my masters in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology from the same university. I came to Florida, USA in 2008 to do research in mesenchymal stem cell area. While pursuing my PhD in Florida state university, I obtained ECFVG certification (license to practice in USA) from AVMA (American veterinary medical association) in 2012. After my PhD in May 2014, worked as an emergency veterinarian at Cottonwood animal hospital, Salt Lake City. After that worked at different hospitals as a veterinarian (First coast no more homeless pets, Jacksonville. ABQ petcare, Albuquerque. Rio Grande animal hospital, Albuquerque). We recently moved to Texas because my wife Dr. Yanyan got assistant professor job at UNT, Denton.

Daniel is part of our management team at 121 Animal Hospital and Alma Animal Hospital. He joined our crew back in 2006 as a kennel tech and now takes care of multiple areas within the clinic administration. Over the years at our hospitals, Daniel has had the good fortune of becoming great friends with a number of our clients, and still enjoys taking time out to play with his old (and new) boarding friends in our kennels. Like his co-workers, Daniel shares a lifelong passion of caring for animals and he enjoys being a part of our great team here at our clinics.

I graduated from Richland Collegiate High School in 2012 with my diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Performing Arts with an emphasis in Dance. I also have another passion- animals. I am currently studying Veterinary Technology at Cedar Valley College, specializing in anesthesiology, and will graduate May 2020. I grew up with “fur babies” of all kinds, but especially bulldogs. I have a strong love for anything that has lots of rolls and a squishy face! I have always believed that animals are pure at heart, love without judgment, and deserve to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Hi, I’m Nicole and I’ve been a Veterinary Assistant with 121 Animal Hospital since early summer 2019, following a couple years of prior experience in North Dallas veterinary clinics. I’ve worked with 121 & Alma Animal Hospital since early 2019 and enjoy being one of the members that helps the cats and dogs be more comfortable and less scared during their visit. Before coming here, I had also had the opportunity to work with several other species of animals including mice, snakes, ferrets, rabbits, cats, dogs, goats, ponies, llamas, and kangaroos! Dr. Leah Atwood graduated from Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences in 2008. Before joining the 121 Animal Hospital, she practiced at a high volume small animal clinic in Dallas, Texas for 7 years. She has a passion for preventive medicine and believes strongly in educating clients so that they may make the best medical decisions for their pet. Her professional interests include soft tissue surgery, clinical pathology, and internal medicine. Dr. Atwood lives with her husband Jason, son Ethan, her English bulldog Hemi, and 2 cats – Rusty and Dori. Her hobbies include spending time with her family and cooking.

Dr. Jacob Worthington graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, and is a member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Dental Society. His professional interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, preventative medicine, and dentistry. He has a passion for helping pets live healthy, longer and pain free, especially through good dental care. Your pet’s health is his #1 priority and he believes that the better informed you are on what is happening with your pet, the better care decisions you are able to make for them.

Dr. Worthington lives in Allen, Texas with his wife Stacey, 3 children, Josh, Sam and Becky, and 2 Chihuahuas, Brady and GiGi. He is active in his church at Chase Oaks. Hobbies include playing with his kids, reading, camping, hiking, and computers.

I have always loved animals so being a technician made sense. Growing up I was blessed with parents who also loved them so there was never a shortage of pets in our house. We had everything from dogs, birds to even a goat. As an adult I continue to surround myself with animals. We currently have a Pit bull named Veda Bear, a mixed breed named Dirk Sandwich and a Yorkie mix named Tater Tot.

My name is Courtney Axton, and I am a receptionist at the Alma Animal Hospital location in Allen. I have worked with Dr. Ali since November of 2007. I have 12+ years experience in the veterinarian field, beginning as a technician then moving into reception and customer service. I have always had a love for animals and was lucky to have parents that felt the same way. Growing up we had horses, pigs, goats, dogs, and cats. Currently I have an 11 year old maltese named Vinnie, an 18 month old minature schnauzer named Reeci Rae, a 16 year old manx named Dr. Spock, and a 7 year old DSH named Ritzy Kitzy. In my spare time I enjoy reading and listening to rock n roll music.

Hi, my name is Tayler McCleskey and I currently live in Plano, Texas with my two pups Bolt the schnauzer mix, Colt the poodle, and my African side neck turtle Momo. I have grown up with pets my whole life and knew from day one that I wanted to work with them. I went to the grooming school Hip Dog School for grooming arts back in the spring of 2011. In my free time I love hanging out with my pups and hanging out at home.
